Home About Neuropathy Physiological Basis Physicians

Peripheral Neuropathy is a nerve condition that affects the arms, hands, legs, and feet.  Diabetes is the most common cause of peripheral neuropathy. However, among other things, neuropathy can also be caused by surgery to the lower back, lower back injuries, chemotherapy, and adverse reactions to high blood pressure medication.  Neuropathy without a clear cause is referred to as idiopathic.  No matter what the diagnosis, the ReBuilder works on all classifications of neuropathy.

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

Individuals with diabetes have an excessively high level of blood sugar and lack sufficient insulin to metabolize it.  In a healthy person, normal electrolytes are composed of calcium, magnesium and potassium. However, for the diabetic, unusually high concentrations of either glucose (blood sugar) or insulin abnormally enter the synaptic junctions impairing nerve signal transmission between the cells. This, in turn, reduces the electrical conductivity of the synaptic fluid - a situation that can occur in any type of diabetes. It is inconsequential if the patient is on insulin, is taking medication, or is controlling his/her diet. The resulting nerve damage is considered permanent; however, we have found that with the consistent use of the ReBuilder , many of the symptoms resolve over time. Because the feet are immersed in the footbath (which is enriched with electrolytes), the warm water vasodilates the skin resulting in the absorption of these electrolyte into the blood stream.  Thus the ReBuilder re-mineralizes the nerves and synaptic junctions.

As the nerve damage occurs, the protective sensations are affected. These include the ability to determine the difference between sharp and dull, hot and cold, and  pressure and vibration. These senses become dulled and/or altered. Initially the process begins as a burning sensation in the toes and progresses up the foot in a "stocking distribution". As the condition progresses, the feet become increasingly numb. Some people feel as if they are wearing socks. Other patients describe the feeling of walking on cotton or a water-filled cushion. Some patients complain that their feet burn at night making sleep difficult. The feet may literally feel cold to the touch even though the skin temperature is normal.  Though its progress can be slowed or halted by maintaining normal blood glucose levels, diabetic peripheral neuropathy is irreversible when using today's traditional therapy.  Our clinical trials, however, indicate that by over stimulating the nerves while simultaneously providing the blood with fresh nutrition and oxygen, many who use the
ReBuilder l are actually recovering feeling and function in their feet.

Diabetic neuropathy carries with it the increased risk of developing skin ulcerations and infections. Corns and calluses on the feet represent areas of excessive friction or pressure. If not properly cared for, these areas, though not necessarily painful, will often break down.  Without being noticed, this condition can progress to ulceration. Ingrown toenails can lead to severe infections in people with neuropathy. Simple things such as trimming the toenails present a risk to these patients since they may accidentally cut the skin without feeling it. Therefore, it is highly recommended that individuals suffering with neuropathy inspect their feet daily.

A way to stimulate the venous muscle pump causing nerve regeneration, reducing pain and numbness, and regaining normal sensation is necessary in order to avoid the final progression to amputation.  With
the help of the ReBuilder
, this goal can be accomplished in the privacy of the patient's own home.

When your ReBuilder
arrives, you will find companion products that  all work together synergistically (electrolyte, epson salt, cooling cream, foaming gel, etc.).  After each treatment massage the Cooling Cream™ into  the feet  for a soothing warmth that not only changes to a refreshingly cool feeling but brings the enhanced blood flow to the surface of the skin re-educating the central nervous system to the new healing sensations.  To relieve congestion that may be contributing to your pain or numbness, the Cooling Cream™ can also be massaged on the lumbar area and on each buttock where the sciatic nerve exits through the sciatic notch.
